COVID-19 Pandemic Will Cause a Budget Deficit of Rs 10 lakh Crores to Central & State Govt. – Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi : Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that according to experts, the central and state governments will incur a budget deficit of Rs 10 lakh crore due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Talking through a video conference with members from the 39th National Medical Board, Gadkari said, “Experts say that the Center and the state government will incur a budget deficit of Rs 10 lakh crore due to the COVID-19 epidemic. So we need to pump liquidity in the economy.”

Giving an example, Gadkari said, “If a farmer does not have money, how will he buy a motorcycle, how will he use petrol or spend in hotels or restaurants or buy new clothes. So the capital should reach the poor people.” He stressed that 115 aspiring districts need to be developed which are socially and economically backward.”

He said, “For this, we have decided that our 115 aspirational districts which are socially and economically backward, we should develop their economies”.

He further said, “Our fight on the economic front is as important as the fight against COVID-19. We have to accomplish the mission of making India a USD 5 trillion economy & we have that potential. We have young, talented & skilled manpower.”
