Corona Virus In Pune | Pune’s Covid-19 weekly positivity rate is 49.9%, double the State rate

Pune : NpNews24 Online Corona Virus In Pune |  A worrying fact has come to the fore during the third wave of the pandemic in Pune. The city is among the hot spots in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Wardha, Akola and Nashik. The Covid-19 weekly positivity rate of Pune is 49.9%, which is double the average rate of the State.

 

Maharashtra has 24% weekly positivity rate. The caseload in the State is worrisome for the entire country. According to government data, 84,902 people tested positive during 17-24 January. Over 2.22 lakh people underwent the Covid test. Of these, 97,000 tested positive. The weekly positivity rate is rapidly going up.

 

PMC Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Wavre said the Covid-19 situation has reached a serious level. Stringent measures need to be taken to check the growing number of cases.

 

At the same time, experts said it was a peak period. The rapid growth is due to the Omicron virus. The situation may persist for a week. Citizens should take care and stay at home.

 

Dr Wavre said cases are likely to start decreasing in 10-15 days. Mumbai has also shown a similar trend.

 

District Health Officer Dr Bhagwan Pawar said Omicron has reached the community transmission level. Testing has been increased but the positivity rate is increasing fast. Pune district is 10-15 days behind Mumbai. Cases will start decreasing next week. Very few patients need hospitalisation. Hence, citizens should not panic due to a high number of cases. They should follow the Covid protocol.

 

Mumbaikars relieved

Mumbai seems to be coming out of the grip of the third wave after three weeks. The administration has succeeded in controlling the positivity rate. The caseload which was crossing 20,000 daily is now under control. On Wednesday, 1,858 new Covid-19 cases were found in Mumbai. Over 1,600 were discharged from various hospitals. The recovery rate is reaching 96%. The doubling rate has gone up to 185 days.

 

According to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, the positivity rate was 0.37 percent during 19-25 January. Over 10,000 fresh cases were reported on January 15 in Mumbai, On January 16, the number of cases dropped by 2,000 while the fresh cases dropped by 3,568 on January 22. The number dropped by 1,000 more the next day. However, it has stabilised around 1800 for the past few days. It is expected that the number will dip further and the situation will normalise soon.
