Congress party today told Goa Governor Mridula Sinha that they have required number of legislators with them to form the government.

The party delegation urged the Governor to call for one-day-long Session so that the floor test can be conducted.

The party legislators led by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar told Governor that they have required number of strength to form the government, while Manohar Parrikar-led coalition falls short of the number, which would be evident during the floor test.

The Leader of Opposition said that they have requested Governor to call for one-day-long session and conduct floor test for the current government.

Kavlekar said that Governor has assured them that she will get back on the issue in next three-four days.

Congress, single largest party has 16 legislators with it, has also urged Governor not to allow Parrikar-led government dissolve the House under some or other pretext.

“BJP has a habit of recommending for dissolution of the House when they don’t have numbers with them. Governor should not allow such action in Goa as Congress is the single largest party in the House,” Kavlekar said.

Congress Legislature Party in Goa had submitted memorandum to Governor’s office on Monday but could not meet Governor as she was out of station.

On Tuesday when Governor arrived, she gave appointment for Congress legislators to meet her at Raj Bhavan.

Kavlekar said that the BJP might force State Legislative Assembly dissolution and another election in just one-and-half year. The election for State Legislative Assembly was held in 2017.

The Congress leader said that “race has begun within the government for the chair of chief minister as Parrikar is admitted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.”

“Some of the BJP leaders are in touch with us as they are upset because their own party is talking about hiring the leaders from outside for CM’s post,” he claimed.

Kavlekar said that the Congress will announce its chief ministerial candidate when Governor summons one-day session to conduct floor test.

“There is absolutely no dispute among us on who would be the Chief Minister. We will reveal the name when floor test is called for,” he said.
