CBI brings Dabholkar shooter Andhure at crime scene on Omkareshwar Temple Bridge

Five years after he allegedly shot dead rationalist Dr. Narendra Dabholkar, the CBI on Saturday afternoon brought Sachin Prakash Andhure to the bridge between Omkareshwar temple and Balgandharv auditorium.

Andhure along with Sharad Kalaskar, both residents of Aurangabad had allegedly fired at Dabholkar around 7.20 am on August 20, 2013, when Dabholkar was morning walk.

Andhure was arrested on August 18 by CBI, while Kalaskar is still in the custody of ATS.

Around 2.45 pm, the CBI team brought Andhure to the exact spot on the bridge where Dabholkar was shot dead as part of the investigation. CBI also took him on the route allegedly used by him during the attack.

Dr. Narendra Dabholkar (67) was the founder of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS).

CBI has informed the court that Andure and some accused in the Gauri Lankesh murder case are connected.

“During the interrogation of accused Andhure he revealed that one of the arrested accused of Gauri Lankesh case had handed over one 7.65 mm country-made pistol and three bullets to him. Andhure passed them to his brother-in-law Shubham Surale in Aurangabad on August 11 this year. After Andhure was arrested, Surale passed the pistol and bullets to his friend Rohit Rajendra Rege. We conducted the search at Rege’s house in Aurangabad and seized the weapon and the live bullets”, stated CBI investigating officer S R Singh in the remand application a few days back.

Gauri Lankesh (55), journalist-turned-activist was shot dead outside her residence in Bengaluru on 5 September 2017.

The agency also informed the court that they are trying to trace the motorcycle used in the crime and also take custody of another accused Sharad Kalaskar, another shooter in Dabholkar case.
