New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS)  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the steps taken by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to revive the economy saying they will facilitate ease of doing business, improve demand and make credit affordable.

” The measures announced by FM @nsitharaman will facilitate ease of doing business, improve demand, make credit affordable and boost the overall economy”, the Prime Minister tweeted in response to Sitharaman’s tweet thanking the PMO for the support. “Thank you @PMOIndia for your guidance and support”,

Home Minister Amit Shah also welcomed the economic revival steps undertaken by the Finance Minister. “Measures to encourage investments in capital markets, facilitating the startup ecosystem, streamlining GST refunds and steps to quickly resolve tax related issues will help entrepreneurs and market sentiments. I congratulate PM @narendramodi for these progressive steps”, he tweeted.

The decision to infuse capital in banks and ensure liquidity in NBFCs along with necessary protection for bankers would help step up credit off-take and private investments, he said and added, easier KYC, lower interest rates and faster loan processing would enhance retail consumption.

Stating that growth is the Modi government’s priority, he said India’s economic fundamentals, despite a global slowdown, remained robust. “The slew of measures announced by FM @nsitharaman reiterate our commitment to improve ease of doing business, easier credit to MSMEs & more money in the hand of individuals”, the Home Minister said.

J.P. Nadda, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) interim president, too praised the Finance Minister for steps to revive the economy. “Under the visionary leadership of PM Sh.@narendramodi Ji some major transforming measures have been taken to boost economy, which are related to facilitating wealth creators, taxation measures, increasing capital flows and energising financial markets, infrastructure,” Nadda tweeted.

He also thanked Sitharaman for such bold and people-friendly decisions . “These will give a huge boost to economy and major relief to all entrepreneurs and businessmen,” Nadda said. The Home Minister said India’s economy remained resilient and despite global slowdown was performing well. “Our government has been fiscally prudent while prioritising growth. Today’s announcements by FM @nsitharaman only reinforce the fact that Modi 2.0 is committed to make India a $5 trillion economy.

In an attempt to stabilise the faltering economy, Sitharaman on Friday announced removal of surcharge on capital gains on shares for both foreign and domestic investors, provided an upfront Rs 70,000 crore equity infusion into public sector banks to boost lending, and unveiled measures to push automobile sales.

Srinagar, Aug 24 (IANS) An opposition party delegation, led by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, was on Saturday stopped at the Srinagar airport and sent back to Delhi, soon after they landed here.
The delegation of 12 opposition leaders had left Delhi by 11.50 a.m. Air Vistara flight. It was not allowed to leave the airport, sources said.

The delegation wanted to visit the Valley to take stock of the situation. The Valley has been placed under security lockdown since August 5, when Article 370 was abrogated. The delegation comprised the Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury, Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and K.C. Venugopal, Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) Chief Sharad Yadav, Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majeed Memon, RJD’s Manoj Jha and Janata Dal Secular’s D. Kupendra Reddy.

On Friday, the J&K administration had advised the opposition leaders not to visit, saying attempts should not be made to disturb the gradual restoration of normalcy in the state. The visit of the opposition delegation comes almost three weeks after the Centre abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special status to J&K.

Before leaving for Srinagar, Raja said they were not going to the Valley to create any law and order problem. Azad also said they were not going to break any law as they were leaders of responsible political parties.

“The government says situation in J&K is normal. But then they don’t allow leaders to visit? Haven’t seen such a contradiction. If things are normal there, why aren’t we allowed to visit?” Azad said. “We are citizens of the country. So is everyone in J&K. We are not people who will make things difficult for anyone. We just want to see the situation on the ground,” Yadav told the reporters.

On August 8, Azad had tried to visit Srinagar, but was not allowed to leave the airport. Similarly, CPI and CPI-M General Secretaries Raja and Yechury, respectively, were also detained at the airport and then sent back to Delhi.

Earlier in the month Rahul Gandhi and J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik had entered into a war of words on Twitter. The Governor had said Gandhi was responding to fake news and trying to politicise the situation.
The Governor on August 12 had offered to send Gandhi an aircraft to visit the Valley and see for himself the ground situation, to which the Congress leader had responded saying he didn’t need an aircraft but freedom to travel and meet the people.

NP News 24 Pune: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is an autonomous body and if they need, they can question the ones who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well, said State Revenue Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil.
“In our country, organisations like the ED, Army, Election Commission (EC), courts and Income Tax Department are autonomous bodies. No one is immediately questioned by the ED. It requires them 2 to 3 years to properly conduct the probe and get the warrant to question or to make a raid. It is not that easy,” the State revenue minister said.
“Just because we get angry with someone over political differences, we won’t send the ED for that. It is not that simple. Even though, BJP is in power it is the ED that decides whom to question as it is autonomous,” Patil further added.
Patil was referring to the recent questioning of MNS chief Raj Thackeray as many party workers are angry with the government and feel that the BJP is misusing their power and misusing the ED to go after the Opposition leaders.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar had also said this in his speeches in the past months when many NCP leaders left the Party and joined the BJP.
Chandrakant Patil was speaking while announcing the norms and regulations during the Ganesh festival celebrations in the city.  He urged the Ganesh mandala to follow the rules laid down by the police and informed that DJs won’t play music in the city during the festival.
He also warned that strict action will be taken against the mandals if they are found to be violating the rules.

New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS)  Arun Jaitley may have been battling with prolonged illness, but nothing could keep him away from taking part in the political discourse. Till the time he was admitted back to the AIIMS where he breathed his last on Saturday, Jaitley continued tweeting.

His last tweet came on August 7 when he paid his tributes for Tulsidas Jayanti before tweeting how heartbroken he was at the demise of his cabinet colleague Sushma Swaraj, who passed away at the AIIMS following a cardiac arrest on August 6.

But it was his series of tweets on August 6 on the abrogation of Article 370 that prove how much he missed politics. Even when he was away from it owing to his critical health condition, he could hardly keep himself from commenting on issues that matter.

In a thread of 10 tweets, Jaitley congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for axing Article 370. “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah achieved the Impossible with the new Kashmir policy. In my blog today, I have analysed the impact of this decision, and history of failed attempts on resolving the J&K issue,” the ailing former Finance Minister had said.

Elaborating on the way J&K was heading, Jaitley said, “The J&K history of the past seven decades shows that the journey of this separate Status has been towards separatism and not integration. It created a separatist psyche. Pakistan was more than enthusiastic in trying to exploit the situation.”

Jaitley then delved into the history of militancy in the valley, saying, “By 1989-90, the situation of J&K had gone out of control and separatism with terrorism picked up. Kashmiri pundits, an essential part of Kashmiriat, suffered such atrocities which only the Nazis had inflicted in the past. The ethnic cleansing took place and they had to move out.”

Jaitley continued, “The historic blunders of special status had cost the country politically and financially. Today, when history is being re-written, it proves that Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s vision on Kashmir was the correct one and Panditji’s dream solution has proved to be a failure.”
The tweets also show his deep-rooted ideological bent towards the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) whose students’ wing was his first political platform.

“In the last seven decades, attempts to resolve the issue proved a disaster, PM Modi decided to follow an alternative approach. The present decision makes it clear that just as the rule of law prevails in other parts of the country, it will equally prevail in the Kashmir valley,” read another tweet.

He then stressed on how Kashmir was changing, saying, “The last ten months have not seen any protest. Not even in Srinagar. Law and order enforcement, making life safe for lakhs of Kashmiris and pressuring handful of separatists and terrorists has been at its best. The next logical step obviously is total integration of the State.”

“The decision to reverse the situation created by Panditji needed clarity, vision and determination. It also needed political courage. The Prime Minister has created history through his absolute clarity and determination,” the ailing politician said, taking a dig at the Congress.

His attacks on the grand old party continued, “India’s most beautiful State has not had investments from even the hotel chains. Consequently, there are no new jobs, no revenue for the State. These constitutional provisions are not cast in stone. They had to be removed/diluted through the due process of law that is done now.

“The level of support has compelled several opposition parties to support this move. They sensed the ground reality and do not want to face the wrath of the people. Regrettably, the Congress Party legacy, which first created the problem and then added to it, fails to see reason.”

Many would wonder from where Jaitley got the stamina. Ailing, feeble but outspoken as always, he ended the Twitter thread with a bang, “Congress Party, as a ‘headless chicken,’ is further consolidating its alienation from the people of India. The New India has changed. Only the Congress does not realise this. The Congress leadership is determined to succeed in its race to the bottom.”
As condolences poured in for the 66-year-old politician, these last 12 tweets will be the embodiment of how unstoppably full of life and conviction Jaitley was.

New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday condoled the death of former Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley describing it as a personal loss for him and recalled his contribution during Narendra Modi’s first term (2014-19) in making India the world’s fastest growing economy.

In a series of tweets, Shah said, “I am deeply saddened by the death of Arun Jaitley. Jaitley’s departure is a personal loss for me. I have lost not only a senior leader of the organization but also an integral member of the family whose support and guidance I have been receiving for years.”

His remarks came soon after Jaitley, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), passed away on Saturday afternoon. He had been in hospital since August 9.
Recalling his experience of working with Jaitley, Shah said, “It was a pleasant experience for everyone to meet Jaitleyji with a jovial personality and hold discussions with him. Today his departure has brought such a vacancy in the country’s politics and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is not possible to be replenished soon.”

Shah said with his unique experience and rare ability, “Arunji served various responsibilities in organization and government. An ardent speaker and dedicated activist, Arunji held important positions like the country’s Finance Minister, Defence Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.”
“He (Jaitley) made an indelible mark as the Finance Minister of the country during the Modi government’s 2014-19 tenure and brought on ground Modiji’s poor welfare vision and propelled India as the world’s fastest growing economy.

“Be it the matter of taking action on black money, the matter of realizing the dream of ‘GST’, the matter of demonetisation or the relief of the common man, in every decision of his, the welfare of the country and the people of the country was visible. The country will always remember him for his very simple and sensitive personality,” he said in another tweet.

“I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and give the bereaved family the power to bear this disconnection. Om shanti shanti shanti,” he added.
