Bookie arrested by Crime Branch for accepting bets on IPL match; Big bookies on radar of Pune police
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime News | The Pune Police Crime Branch Unit 3 has arrested a bookie for accepting bets on the IPL-2023 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team has seized a mobile worth ₹7,000. The action was taken on Thursday near Gunjan Talkies and some big bookies are on police radar. (Pune Crime News)
The accused has been identified as Akash Dharampal Goyal (30), a resident of Lohegaon, Pune. ACP Sunil Pawar of the Crime Branch and Sr PI Shirhari Bahirat of Unit 3 got the information that Akash Goyal is accepting bets on the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The police searched for the accused, he was apprehended near Gunjan Talkies. When he was grilled, he admitted accepting bets and forwarding it via cricket app Mahadev Book. An FIR has been registered against the accused at the Yerawada police station under section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Gambling Act.
The action was taken by Sr PI Srihari Bahirat, ASI Santosh Kshirsagar, police constable Sharad Wakse, policemen Sujit Pawar, Rakesh Tekawade, Satish Katrale, Sonam Nevse and Bhagyashree Waghmare under the guidance of CP Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende and ACP Sunil Pawar.
