Bombay High Court reserves order in plea challenging Sanjay Pandey holding the DGP charge

Mumbai : NpNews24 Online Adv Datta Mane has challenged the handing over of charge of the DGP office to IPS Sanjay Pandey in the Bombay High Court (HC) by filing a PIL. Hearing in this regard took place today before the HC bench comprising Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Makarand Karnik on Thursday.

The bench reserved its order in the case after hearing arguments from both sides.

Arguing on behalf of Pandey, senior legal counsel Navroz Seervai said the UPSC ignored IPS Pandey’s distinguished performance and commendable track record. The UPSC did not recommend his name for DGP’s post as two of the three members of the selection panel did not consider his name in spite of his outstanding service record (ACR).

Seervai said Pandey has given 30 years of his life to the police force. He is an upright police officer and has earned ranks of over 8 since November 2021 in his ACR (service book). Though this is an outstanding aspect, two of the three selectors ignored this fact. He is the most adversely affected officer in this regard, pointed out his legal counsel.
