Bombay High Court asks Thackeray government why they need central approval for door to door vaccination

Mumbai : The Bombay High Court on Tuesday reprimanded the Thackeray government for waiting for central approval to conduct door-to-door vaccinations to protect against Corona. The court asked the government why it needed the approval of the Center to go home and administer the corona vaccine to senior citizens, differently-abled and bedridden sick people.

During this, the state government, while filing an affidavit in the court on Tuesday, said that as an experiment, door-to-door vaccination can be started, but only for such people who cannot move or are ill at home. However, the government also said that for this proposal, permission will have to be taken from the central government first.

A division bench of High Court Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice GS Kulkarni said that why do you need approval from the center? Health is also a state subject. Is the state government doing everything with the approval of the Centre? Have states like Kerala, Bihar and Jharkhand taken permission from the central government? During this, the High Court asked the Maharashtra government whether it wanted to conduct door-to-door vaccination in the state.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by two lawyers Dhriti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari in the case. The state government in which the central government was requested to direct the door-to-door application of corona vaccine for people above 75 years of age, disabled and bed-ill patients. Earlier, the central government had said that due to many reasons, the program of home vaccination cannot be started yet. In which there are many reasons like wastage of vaccines and adverse effects of vaccines.
