BJP postponed cantonment elections because it was scared of defeat, says Mohan Joshi

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Mohan Joshi Pune | Vice-President of State unit of Congress Mohan Joshi today lashed out at the BJP by alleging that the elections of cantonment boards in the country have been postponed because the party is scared that it would be defeated due to the widespread discontentment in the country. The CEC had announced the election programme and the process of filling up nomination forms by the candidates had started. The results of the survey and the party’s habit of providing empty assurances on various problems like inflation, unemployment and local problems are proving a stumbling block for it.

“The victory of the MVA candidate in the Kasba Peth bypoll is a pointer to the changing situation. Hence, the BJP has started a new practice to avoid defeats and this is against the principles of the constitution. Cancelling the election process after the schedule has been announced is incorrect and the citizens are wondering whether an undeclared emergency would be turned into an official emergency,” he said.

“The elections of the Pune Cantonment Board should be held on a regular basis and the residents have a right to vote. Frequent postponement of elections and not holding elections in the stipulated period means trampling the constitutional norms. The elections of municipal corporations and councils have been postponed and the government does not care about people’s opinion. The BJP is blatantly violating the constitution,” he added.
