BJP must apologise for Gujrat riots: Nawab Malik

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Cabinet minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson Nawab Malik on Wednesday, said BJP must now apologies for Gujrat riots, after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accepted that emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indra Gandhi was wrong.

Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the Emergency, imposed during the regime of his grandmother, the late Indra Gandhi was a mistake and what happened during that period was wrong.

Soon after this statement, NCP spokesperson said, “Now it is the turn of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept that Gujarat riots were wrong.” He also added, “It takes a big heart to accept wrong things done.”

“After 45 years, Rahul Gandhi has accepted that imposition of Emergency was a mistake. The Congress had also apologised for the (anti-Sikh) Delhi riots (of 1984),” the minister said, talking to reporters outside Vidhan Bhavan in south Mumbai.

Maharashtra Congress unit president Nana Patole said, there’s no wrong in accepting and apologizing for old mistakes, and it was a good gesture. “Gujarat riots were a blot on humanity. Will BJP and Modi apologise for it?” Patole asked.
