BEWARE : Pune rural police to extern if you harass women; MCOCA, MPDA against mafias

The newly appointed Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Sandip Patil has ordered a crackdown against land, sand, Mathadi mafias who harass businessmen in the district. The officer also warned that those who will harass girls and women will be externed from the district.

After taking charge of the district police, the SP briefed the media persons at Pune rural police headquarters on Pashan road, about various initiatives of the police. Additional Superintendent of Police (Pune division) Sandip Jadhav, Additional Superintendent of Police (Baramati division) Dr. Sandip Pakhale were also present on the occasion.

Security, the safety of women

The Nirbhaya Squad and Damini squads have been given free hand to deal with anti-social elements who harass girl students and women. Police have purchased spy (secret) cameras these squads who record activities of people who harass girls and women in public places. Police have also identified hotspots like schools, colleges, bust stands, markets, major junctions, to target these people. There have been several cases against them in the past.

Also, women safety committees have been formed in every village, besides similar committees in each school. All the police stations have shared phone number of a male and a female cop with school children in their jurisdiction.

Dedicated traffic units under each police station

Now there will be dedicated traffic units under every police station in the district to manage traffic. There will be a separate traffic division in Baramati. Also, the traffic plan will be prepared to avoid traffic congestion in Khed, Chakan, Ahmednagar road.

Safe environment for industries

Pune district is one of the highly industrialized districts in the country, with over thousands of companies where lakhs of people from Maharashtra as well as outside work. There have been several cases of extortion by Mathadi (labor) mafia besides land mafias who harass businessmen. Now the police take action against such goons under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.
