Army officer arrested from Tamil Nadu in Army Exam Paper leak case

A 45-year-old Major rank Indian Army officer was arrested on Monday from Tamil Nadu’s Wellington by the Pune police in connection with the recent recruitment exam paper leak case.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta confirmed that an officer of Major rank has been arrested from Tamil Nadu. Calling it a “big breakthrough” in the case, Gupta also confirmed that this was the 10th arrest in the two cases combined, one registered with the Wanowrie police and the other with the Vishrantwadi police.
Earlier, in a joint operation with military intelligence of the southern command of the Indian Army, Pune city police had arrested eight accused in this case including two serving defence personnel, a defence civilian and some who were running pre-military training institutes in different parts of the country.
Army Relation Recruitment exam which was scheduled for February 28, which was to take place in Pune and 40 other centers, had to be cancelled, after it was leaked, police said.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army had said that the existing system of recruitment process will be made more foolproof and robust by incorporating the findings of the joint investigation by Army authorities and Maharashtra Police.
A statement from the Indian Army, issued earlier this week, had said, “In pursuance of the Indian Army’s resolve to ensure transparency and eliminate corrupt practices in recruitment, Indian Army and Maharashtra State Police are jointly investigating the recent case of leakage of question paper….The findings of the inquiry will be incorporated in the existing system of recruitment process to make it more foolproof and robust.”
