Alliance between Prakash Ambedkar and Owaisi

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Ambedkar and Asaduddin Owaisi are rallying together in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Asaduddin Owaisi leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen forges an alliance with Prakash Ambedkar leader of Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh. According to the news, both the leaders have decided to come together to stop the vote of Dalit and Muslim vote from dividing.

Owaisi is trying to make a strong political stand in Maharashtra from a long time. In the last assembly elections, his party got two seats. Apart from this, about 150 members from AIMIM party managed to win the elections in local bodies.

Maharashtra has nearly 17 percent Dalits and 13 percent Muslim population. In cities like Aurangabad, Beed, Nanded, and Osmanabad there is the large population of Muslims. There is also a huge population of Muslim voter’s in Parbhani, Latur, Jalna, and Hingoli. While the Dalit community comes in the district of Aurangabad, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, and Nanded.

The SC/ST act and with the protests against Bhima Koregaon violence, Prakash Ambedkar has stood in the favor of Dalit community and as a leader of Dalit in Maharashtra politics. After this incident, he has always been seen protesting against the BJP and the Modi government. Prakash Ambedkar’s political base is believed to be in Akola district of Vidarbha region and its surroundings. However, he is still waiting for a party to be in power.

Even during the UP assembly elections, Owaisi had tried to an alliance with the BSP but Mayawati the president of BSP did not give much importance to him. But Owaisi now wants to strengthen his hold in Maharashtra by making an alliance with BBM leader Prakash Ambedkar.

While some Maharashtra based Political party like ShivSena criticized Ambedkar saying that, “the alliance between Prakash Ambedkar of BBM and Owaisi of AIMIM, have come together to help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
