Allegations in Jalgaon hostel case false: Anil Deshmukh

MUMBAI: State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Thursday that a four-member committee did not find any truth in allegations that women from a Jalgaon shelter home had been forced to dance naked before policemen.

“No such incident took place in Jalgaon. It is a false complaint. The committee of six senior women officers from different departments have given their probe findings today,” he said.

He also added that the woman who had made such a complaint was, in fact, mentally unstable. He claimed that several complaints about her had already been received.

He further said that during the cultural programme which took place on March 1, one of the women had removed her clothes of her own volition and there was no involvement of the police.

“Women were singing, dancing, reciting poetry. During garba, a woman felt inconvenienced by her garba costume and removed it. At that time, there were only women present in the room,” he said.

The alleged incident had sent shockwaves across the country. BJP had claimed that some women living in the government hostel of Jalgaon were forcibly stripped and made to dance. Those who did not do so were beaten up by the police, the BJP had claimed.
