After Haryana, Jharkhand is set to pass 75% local quota in private jobs

Following suit with Haryana government, the Jharkhand Cabinet on Friday approved employment policy requiring private sector units to reserve 75 percent of jobs (up to a salary of Rs 30,000 per month) for local people, Previously, the Haryana government had come up with a similar policy.

The CM will announce the new policy next week in the Assembly session, probably on March 17. A few modalities are yet to be decided; they will be announced in the Assembly.

According to the Economic Survey, the unemployment rate in Jharkhand rose to a peak of 59.2% at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in May 2020, before gradually falling to 11.3% in January 2021. In January 2020, the unemployment rate stood at 10.6%.

Under the Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020, the private sector will have to employ 75% of the local candidates with respect to such posts where the gross monthly salary or wages are not more than ₹50,000.

The salary and allowances of the ministers of the state of Jharkhand have been amended under the decision of the Jharkhand cabinet. Under this amendment, now ministers of Jharkhand can be treated in any private hospital outside the state. The state government will bear the cost of treatment. Apart from this, if an air ambulance is also required, then the state government will also bear the cost of that.

Apart from this, the allowance will be given to the unemployed under Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana. Under which technically trained and certified candidates who are not associated with any employment or self-employment will be given unemployment allowance.
