Action to be taken against auto-rickshaw drivers not revalidating meters

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune RTO | The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Pune has implemented fare hike from September 1, 2022 for three-seater auto-rickshaws in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Baramati as per the recommendation of the Khatua Committee. Action will be taken against those auto-rickshaw drivers and owners who do not calibrate the meters of their auto-rickshaws despite the extension of time. (Pune RTO)

 

As auto rickshaw owners didn’t complete revalidation of their auto rickshaw fare meters and meter inspection work within the prescribed time. Auto unions demanded an extension of time for revalidation of meters to avoid inconvenience to auto rickshaw licensees, parents. Initially, extension for revalidation of meters was given from November 1 to 30 and then from December 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023 by the RTA.

 

Those auto-rickshaw owners who do not get the meter calibration done within the prescribed time frame will be subject to license suspension or penalties. Failure to calibrate the meter will result in a minimum suspension of 7 days beyond the expiry of the period and 1 day for every single day thereafter up to a total maximum suspension period of 40 days. If the option of penalty is selected instead of suspension, Rs 50 for every day after the expiry of the term but minimum Rs 500 and maximum Rs 2,000 will be recovered. RTO Ajit Shinde has said that the work of meter inspection will continue at Phule Nagar and Alandi road test ground.
