ACB arrests two policemen while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe
Palghar : NpNews24 Online – Palghar ACB Trap | Two policemen attached with the Palghar Railway Police Station, who were taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 per month to continue the transportation of gutkha banned by the Maharashtra Government, were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Thane. A team of ACB Thane carried out this operation on Monday at the Dahanu railway station around 5 pm.
Police Naik Aqeel Jamal Pathan (32) and police constable Samadhan Shesharao Narwade (37) were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. A 37-year-old person has filed a complaint with the ACB Thane.
The complainant was caught by Pathan and Narwade while transporting gutkha, which has been banned by the Maharashtra Government. Both of them demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 per month from the complainant to not take any action and to allow him to carry on the business of transporting illegal gutkha by rail. As the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he complained about the matter to the ACB.
Accordingly, the Thane unit verified the demand on Monday. It was found that both the accused had together demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000. A trap was laid at the Dahanu railway station around 5 pm.
Aqeel Pathan was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Both the accused were detained after accepting the bribe.
The action was taken by a team comprising Deputy Superintendent of Police Navnath Jagtap, Police Inspector Swapan Biswas, Police Constables Amit Chavan, Vilas Bhoye, Nitin Pagdhare, Nisha Manjrekar, Deepak Sumda, Navnath Bhagat and Police Naik Sakharam Dode and Swati Tarvi under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Sunil Lokhande and Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Gherdikar.
