26/11 : Bombay HC Asks Govt. To Consider Providing House & Higher Education To Youngest Survivor Of The Attack

Mumbai : Youngest survivor of the terrorist attack on 26-11-2008 in Mumbai and eyewitness Devika Rotavan was facing a lot of difficulty since the lockdown period. In the wake of the Mumbai attack, the government had said that they will help her, Devika said that she needed the government’s support.

Devika Rotavan said, “The government had promised her to give a house and all kinds of cooperation, but it did not happen. She was given Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister, which she used for the treatment of TB. She is thankful to the government for this but all the promises made to her have not been fulfilled yet.”

After this, the Bombay High Court has now asked the Maharashtra government to consider providing houses and higher education under the economically poor class scheme.

A division bench of Justices Nitin Jamdar and Justice Milind Jadhav directed the registry to give a copy of Rotawan’s petition to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.

In her petition filed in August this year, 21-year-old Rotwan said that she and her family are living in a very poor state. They are homeless due to their inability to pay rent. The petition should be considered on compassionate grounds.

It is noteworthy that she was 9 years old when the terrorist attack took place on 26 November 2008 and at that time she was with her father and brother at CST. She was injured by a bullet terrorist shot in her leg. Her father and brother were also injured in that attack and after that they are unable to earn a living due to illnesses.
