Maharashtra assembly monsoon session | Center owes Rs 30,352 crore GST compensation to Maharashtra : Ajit Pawar
New Delhi : (Maharashtra assembly monsoon session) The two-day monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly began on Monday and continued throughout the day. BJP MLAs raised slogans in the House on the issue of reservation in elections, early election of Speaker, constitution of committee for MPSC examination, Maratha reservation and farmers. 12 MLAs accused of abusing Assembly Speaker Bhaskar Jadhav have also been suspended for one year. On the other hand, Maharashtra Finance Minister Ajit Pawar said in the state Legislative Council on Monday that the central government owes Maharashtra GST compensation of Rs 30,352 crore.
After introducing the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Bill (Amendment) 2021 on Monday, Ajit Pawar said that the Center should seriously consider the due compensation. Regarding the bill, Ajit Pawar said that the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Council meets regularly under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and some decisions are taken. The members of the councils include the finance ministers of the states.
After taking decisions, the Center first implements them and later the states need to pass those decisions in their legislatures, he said. ‘That’s why this bill was introduced in the Legislative Council and everyone passed it.’ Pawar said that the total GST compensation of Maharashtra in 2019-20 was Rs 1,029 crore. He said, “The outstanding amount has increased to Rs 20,193 crore in 2020-21. It was Rs 9,130 crore in 2021-22 (April to May). Thus, at present, the total outstanding GST compensation at the Center is Rs 30,352 crore.’
The MLAs who have been suspended include Parag Alwani, Ram Satpute, Sanjay Kute, Ashish Shelar, Abhimanyu Pawar, Girish Mahajan, Atul Bhatkalkar, Shirish Pingle, Jaykumar Rawal, Yogesh Sagar, Narayan Kuche and Kirtikumar Bhangadiya. There is a full possibility of uproar in the house on Tuesday also.
In the monsoon session, this time the government is going to bring a total of three proposals, which include opposition to agricultural laws, Center’s intervention on the issue of Maratha reservation and reservation of OBCs. Earlier, as soon as the proceedings of the house began, BJP MLAs created a lot of ruckus by taking the name of Swapnil Lonkar, a youth who had passed the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination and committed suicide while waiting for the interview.
