Video : Cyclone Yaas causes havoc in Odisha and West Bengal


New Delhi : After landfall in Odisha on Wednesday morning, Yaas caused massive destruction in the Odisha-West Bengal border areas. During this, the storm reached the lowlands and uprooted many trees. It is reported that at least 5 people have died so far. Meanwhile, Yaas entered the Jharkhand border on Wednesday night. However, the Meteorological Department has reported that the storm is weakening.

Due to this storm, 3 lakh houses were destroyed in West Bengal. 1 crore people were affected. The same effect of the storm was seen in Odisha. Odisha and Bengal received rains with strong winds due to severe cyclonic storm Yaas. Devastation caused by the storm can be predicted from these different pictures from Odisha and West Bengal. Strong winds and rain flooded the streets several feet. The JCB machine going to help people got caught in the grip of the storm.

This was the raging form of Cyclone Yaas, who uprooted houses, shops and giant trees. This was just an early glimpse of the cyclonic storm. During the 3-hour landfall, Yaas was at its peak in Bhadrak and Balasore in Odisha and it was in these places that the maximum devastation was also predicted.

Due to increase in water level in the rivers due to Yaas, the coastal districts of West Bengal, East Medinipur and many areas of South 24 Parganas were flooded. At the same time many small villages and towns were submerged. In Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly of West Bengal, the effect of the storm was also seen. Haldia Port also witnessed the brunt of the rising waves due to the storm.
