Last week, Jaish commander Sajjad Afghani was killed in an encounter with security forces in Rawalpora, Shopian. 36 Chinese-made steel bullets recovered from Afghani have raised the concern of security forces. Subsequently, the security forces have further strengthened the bullet proofing capability of their vehicles, bunkers and jawans. These steel bullets have the ability to pierce the bullet-proof jackets of jawans and ordinary bullet-proof vehicles.
Officials said that, especially in South Kashmir, a layer of security has been increased in the vehicles and jawans now being deployed. Bullets commonly used in AK series rifles and on other explosives, a layer of hard steel core is being given as per Chinese technology.
Cartridges recently found near JeM Commander Sajjad Afghani, called Armor Piercing (AP), have been found to be manufactured from hardened steel or tungsten carbide.
