Chris Morris becomes most expensive player in IPL history, sold at Rs 16.25 Cr to RR
Chris Morris became the most expensive player in IPL history after being bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16.25 crore. Mumbai Indians joined the bidding war for South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris with Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Morris’s base price was Rs 75 lakh and he went through an intense bidding war before being sold for Rs 16.25 crore.
Earlier, Yuvraj Singh was the costliest-ever buy in auction history as he was bought for Rs 16 crore by Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2015. Following the former India all-rounder, are Pat Cummins (Rs 15.5 crore, 2020) and Ben Stokes (14.5 crore, 2017).
The South Africa all-rounder was one of the top buys at the IPL 2020 Player Auction when he was sold to the RCB for a whopping Rs 10 cr. But he was released in the off-season and that was enough for RR to swoop in and buy him.
Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings were in the bid for Morris, with the Royals eventually prevailing with the highest bid.
A good hitter of the ball down the order and a prolific wicket-taker, Morris is the type of all-rounder any team would like to have in their ranks. However, his fitness issues might hamper his chances of fetching a big contract like last year.
