Welcome to 2020, where most of the youth are into devices and social media. Due to today’s technology, youngsters are able to enjoy almost everything digitally, including these emojis. These emoji options are limitless, making people get hooked to them even more. 


Young people are meant to be curious, explorer, and experimental; this is why once they’ve seen something new being introduced, they tend to try it out. One of the best examples is emoji. These cute little smileys allow you to express your emotions better. That being said, here are a few of the reasons why our youth can relate and enjoy them.

What Is An Emoji?

Basically, emojis are smileys and ideograms that are used in web pages and electronic messages. They offer a broad range of selections such as the heart, rainbow, sun, angry, and even alien emoji. They are utilized to even more express an emotion or idea because of the sentiment they are showing.


The term “emoji” came from the Japanese words “e” for photo or picture, “mo,” which means writing, and “ji” for character or letter. It was introduced in 1999. Some people might mix it up, but emojis are different from emoticons as emoticons are a typographic portrayal of facial expression in the text.

Did you know that as of March 2020, there are a total of 3,304 listed emojis in the Unicode Standard? But, out of those thousands of them, there are few that are commonly being used by the Millenials. 

Face With Tears Of Joy

The emoji that shows a face with tears of joy represents someone who is laughing very hard that their tears are streaming down their face. It can also be used to express enjoyment when someone does or says something embarrassing or funny.

Smiling Face with Heart-Shaped Eyes

The smiling face with heart-eyes sure does have a winning smile. This emoji often shows the feeling of adoration, love, and infatuation. The tone of it can be platonic or romantic, depending on the context of the message. 

The Red Heart Emoji

An all-time love heart emoji. This one is best for conveying love, hope, and happiness. Some people also used this as a way of flirting and even being overjoyed. It is displayed in different shades of color on most social media platforms. 

Thinking Face Emoji

The emoji with a yellow face and wrinkled eyebrows looking up with a resting index and thumb finger on its chin is called the “thinking face” emoji. It is used to let a person know that the sender is in deep thought. It can also be used to scorn or question something. 

Folded Hands

The emoji, which shows two hands being pressed together while the fingers are pointed up, is called the “folded hands.” This is commonly being used as a gesture of thanking, praying, greeting, and even requesting. Some also used this to express sentiments like gratitude, praise, hope, and respect.

How The Youth Utilizes Them

As we all know, social media has become one of the most commonly used ways to connect and get in touch with people around the world. Whether it is for a friend, family, or merely an acquaintance, exchanging messages is possible. 


Social media is the perfect place to express emotions, share any idea, and even to let people know a special event in your life. Hence, Millennials like to use them. But, other posts and messages will never be complete or justified without using these emojis. They help people express their weakest up to the strongest emotion. 


Emojis play an essential role in today’s communication. Some people find it so much easier to express the intensity of their feelings towards the person they are exchanging messages to when using these emojis. However, just like other things, you also need to make sure to use the most appropriate item to use.
