Pune: Suspended police, journalist and woman arrested for demanding land and a ransom of Rs 2 crore from a well-known builder, all were sent to police custody for 4 days. The search is on for both, including an RTI activist. Meanwhile, there was a debate in the court for two hours on both sides. Journalists Devendra Fulchand Jain (52, Ganeshamala, Dandekar Pool), Shailesh Haribhau Jagtap (49) and a 34-year-old woman have been sent to police custody in this case. RTI activist Ravindra Barate and Amol Satish Chavan are both absconding. Sudhir Karnatki (age 64) has lodged a complaint at Kothrud Police Station. Complainant is a builder
In 2013, Karnatki gave him a three-bedroom flat in Bavdhan on rent, rent was being paid by him only. In 2017, he bought the flat in the joint name of both him and the woman, whose loan installment was also paid by him. From 2019, she began to unnecessarily demand money from Karnataki, as well as threatening to implicate him in a false trial. In November last year, she brought Ravindra Bhatte, Shailesh Jagtap, Amol Chavan and Devendra Jain and demanded a flat of Rs. 6 lakh in their name. She also threatened to kill him or involve him in a false case. At that time due to not having money, she asked to write a settlement on the stamp paper, otherwise threatened him to trap and slander him. Fearful of this, Karnatki wrote the same on stamp paper. After this, in December 2019, the woman met Karnataki and threatened to give her two crore rupees and Rasta Peth land in the name of her colleagues.
The accused has written the agreement in English language. However, the accused woman is only the 10th pass. So now the question arises that where and from whom did she write this agreement. Also, how did Jain, Barate, Jagtap and Chavan know each other. The matter is being verified. Apart from this, who told the accused about the land of Rasta Peth. Devendra Jain and Jagtap want to investigate this place. On the other hand, Devendra Jain admitted that Shailesh Jagtap had brought the female accused and Chavan to the investigation and said that Barate was helping her. Shailesh used to sit in the office in Rasta Pethe. Also, Jain and he said that we have papers of this place. Also, documents of the place have been received from Jagtap and an inquiry is to be held in this regard. The court also sought 14 days police custody for the fugitives. This was followed by arguments from the accused’s lawyers. The court remanded the three to police custody till July 12 after arguments from both sides. Police had sought custody on 31 points. Meanwhile, absconding and RTI activist Ravindra Barate has been booked in various police stations in the city.
Case of extortion registered : Vijay Singh Thombre
Vijaysinh Thombre, counsel for the accused woman, argued in court that the accused woman had filed a case of rape against Sudhir Karnataki at Hinjewadi police station six months ago. A false charge of ransom has been filed to take the case back. Also, the court has been asked to remove the investigation from the Pune police and hand it over to the CBI or CID. A decision has been sought to give a decision on the matter within two days.
