154 kg ganja worth Rs 7.5 lakhs seized by Pune Customs department

A whopping 154.88 kg ganja worth Rs 7.5 lakhs has been seized by the Pune Customs department official on Monday.

The sleuths from the department intercepted a car near Alandi phata, Lonikand, and during checking found the ganja hidden.

Suresh Banoth, a resident of Bakka Rupala Tanda in Telangana and owner of the seized ganja was driving the car.

“Ganja were cleverly concealed inside the vehicle boot (dikki) and rear seat of vehicle and was packed in plastic bags. The vehicle was coming from Khambam, Telangana and going to Panvel near Mumbai. Early morning, the customs officials intercepted the vehicle and the driver at Lonikand. The ganja was recovered from the vehicle and seized under the the provisions of the NDPS Act, as possesing, carrying,transporting narcotics and psychotropic substance is an offence under the NDPS Act. During his statement, Banoth has admitted possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the ganja”, reads a statement from the department.

This is the fourth case of ganja detected by the Pune customs in last two months and 430 kg ganja valued at Rs 21.50 lakhs ( approx) has been seized and five persons arrested. Further investigation is under progress, the department officials said.
